REPORT: U21S CRUISE PAST BRISTOL CITY

Second-half show seals the three points at Thorp Arch...

Our Under-21s eased past Bristol City with a convincing 3-0 win at Thorp Arch on Monday afternoon.

All three goals came in an impressive second-half showing, with Casper Sloth opening the scoring before Frank Mulhern's double added the gloss to the victory.

The game also saw new signing Jordan Botaka complete the full 90 minutes in front of head coach Uwe Rosler, as the Congolese winger awaits his full United debut.

And Botaka caught the eye in his first appearance in Leeds colours, testing goalkeeper Jo Jo Wollacott inside the opening exchanges after a neat one-two with Tom Lyman.

Lyman then forced the goalkeeper to acrobatically tip his long-range strike over the bar towards the end of a goalless first-half.

The opening goal eventually came just after the hour mark as Sloth raced onto Botaka's inch-perfect through ball to slot underneath the onrushing Wollacott.

Mulhern, a half-time substitute for Lee Erwin, then added a quick-fire second with a composed finish on the turn from close-range.

And the 18-year-old striker wrapped up a four-minute goal flurry with a powerful, downwards header into the bottom corner.

Paul Hart, overseeing his first win in charge of the U21s, said: "I was extremely pleased with the lads.

"Part of my remit is to work with the Under-21s and I only started last week. We've done a few things and they've responded extremely well.

"I saw them play at Millwall last week and we've tried to press on with other things. The response has been fantastic and I'm delighted with the win.

"We'll see more when they get a little bit match fitter, but their attitude has been absolutely first-class. Without that, the ability and tactics are worthless."

On Botaka's display, Hart added: "His attitude to the game was terrific. He's a very, very skilful player - that goes without saying.

"Some of the things he did with the ball were really exciting to see. That's the first time I've seen him.

"I work on things like how he approaches the game and he made an excellent first impression."

Under-21s team: Grimes, Coyle, Skelton, Vann, Denton, Purver, Sloth, Lyman (Stokes 45), Walters (Parkin 58), Botaka, Erwin (Mulhern 45). Subs not used: Peacock-Farrell, McDaid.
