BOSS EXCITED FOR SEASON OPENER

David Hockaday on squad ahead of Millwall…

United head coach David Hockaday has spoken of his excitement at the new season’s opening fixture this weekend against Millwall (3pm).

United will be backed by a sell out away crowd on Saturday and the head coach insists the squad’s preparation ahead of the trip to The Den have been right.

“I’m excited for the new season,” said Hockaday. “Our preparation has been good and we have got better and better everyday.

“We can’t wait to kick off away to Millwall on Saturday.

“I’m delighted with the players. From day one up to now they are a different set of players. We look a team and we are working hard for each other.

“We look like we can keep the ball and we look dangerous so I’m really happy with the strides we have made.

“We have done a lot of work on and off the field and there is a lot more still to do.

“We’ll step over the line and we’ll perform on demand, there will be no excuses.”

David has paid tribute to his players and says that the new recruits have all settled into the mix nicely.

“This is a really good group to work with,” said the head coach. “They don’t give you any problems.

“They are very welcoming to new players and they now that any new additions are here to help the team. All the players have mixed very well.”

The head coach is yet to make his captain for the new season known but he says he’ll be letting the team know the day before Millwall.

“I’ll name the captain to the team on Friday,” explained David. “I want eleven captains on the pitch and seven on the bench waiting to come on.

“It is as simple as that but I do appreciate that people want to know the captain.

“Whoever wears the armband will go up and toss the coin and will choose which way we kick but other than that I want eleven captains.”
