BRIGHTON: STAT PACK

BRIGHTON: STAT PACK

Andrew Dalton provides the stats ahead of our trip to Brighton...

It’s another away day for Leeds United, this time a long trip down south to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion.

Leeds United’s last five visits to Brighton:
February 11th 2014, Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 Leeds United, Championship
November 2nd 2012, Brighton & Hove Albion 2-2 Leeds United, Championship
September 23rd 2011, Brighton & Hove Albion 3-3 Leeds United, Championship
November 21st 2009, Brighton & Hove Albion 0-3 Leeds United, League One
January 17th 2009, Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Leeds United, League One

Five who played for both:
Sebastian Carole – Carole joined Brighton from Chateauroux in August 2005 and his stay at the Withdean lasted one season before joining Leeds. In total he made 42 appearances, scoring twice (once at Elland Road) for the Seagulls. At Leeds he would make a further 52 appearances scoring three goals. He re-joined Brighton first on loan from Darlington making 12 appearances and then again for the third time (permanently) from Tranmere making a further four appearances.

Bradley Johnson – Johnson joined the Whites from Northampton in the January 2008 transfer window and stayed in West Yorkshire till the summer of 2011. In the colours of Leeds he would make a total of 135 appearances scoring 17 goals. He had a brief loan spell at Brighton between October 2008 and January 2009, scoring five goals in 10 starts.

Ian Westlake –Westlake joined Leeds from Ipswich Town in a swap deal for Dan Harding in the summer of 2006. He had a mixed stay at Elland Road, appearing 51 times, scoring twice. He joined Brighton on loan between March and May 2008 scoring twice in 11 games.

Liam Dickinson – The Salford born player joined Leeds on loan from Derby County in March 2009, featuring eight times. He then joined Brighton permanently in July 2009 making 32 appearances, whilst scoring six times.

Mark Beeney – Goalkeeper Beeney joined Brighton from Aldershot in March 1991, making a total of 69 appearances for the Seagulls. He joined the Whites in April 1993 but found his chances limited due to the form of first John Lukic and the Nigel Martyn. In total he made 43 appearances.

Five to go between Brighton and Leeds:
Leeds' first evert visit to the Withdean was one to forget for more reasons than one. In pouring rain Leeds has both captain Paul Butler and Matthew Kilgallon sent off and a third defender, Clarke Carlisle, score the only goal of the game in the wrong net.

Leeds has to wait till their third visit to the Withdean Stadium to record their first win there. In a rather forgettable encounter a Tresor Kandol tap in was the difference in October 2007.

United's last visit to the Withdean Stadium saw the Whites ease to a 3-0 victory in November 2009. Leeds strolled to victory thanks for goals from Robert Snodgrass, Jermaine Beckford and a third late on from Neil Kilkenny.

Leeds' first ever visit to the new Amex Stadium saw United snatch a last gasp equaliser despite leading 2-0 at half time. Goals from Andy Keogh and Ross McCormack were cancelled out by a brace from Craig Mackail-Smith and a penalty from Ashley Barnes only for McCormack to ensure a share of the spoils.

Did you know that Leeds have travelled to three different ground to face Brighton? Goldstone Ground on 12 occasions, the Withdean Stadium on five occasions and the Amex Stadium on three occasions.
