BIRMINGHAM: STAT PACK

Andrew Dalton provides the stats ahead of the Birmingham fixture...

After what seems an age on the road, its finally back to Elland Road as the Whites will be hoping to repeat their result against the Blues last season.

Birmingham City’s Last 5 League Visits to Elland Road:
October 20th 2013 Leeds United 4-0 Birmingham City, Championship
October 27th 2012 Leeds United 0-1 Birmingham City, Championship
January 31st 2012 Leeds United 1-4 Birmingham City, Championship
September 23rd 2006, Leeds United 3-2 Birmingham City, Championship
September 20th 2003, Leeds United 0-2 Birmingham City, Premiership

Five Moments to Remember:
Leeds will be hoping to repeat last season performances against the Blues when 3 first goals from Ross McCormack, Rudy Austin and Matt Smith, ensured the points were safe before the break. A second from Matt Smith in the second half put gloss on the win.

In Season 2006-07 and with then manager Kevin Blackwell having been sacked, Leeds were the stewardship of caretaker John Carver for the visit of the high flying Blues. They turned the form book on its head with a 3-2 victory thanks to a brace from David Healy and own goal from Olivier Tebiliy.

February 25th 1996, might not be a date in many fans memory bank, but it was the day Leeds reached their first domestic cup final since 1973, with a 3-0 second leg win in the Coca Cola Cup at Elland Road. Having won the first leg 2-1 at St Andrews, goals from Phil Masinga, Tony Yeboah and Brian Deane, plus a penalty miss from Steve Claridge ensured a trip to the Twin Towers.

Fast forward two years and this time it was an FA Cup 5th round tie at Elland Road on St Valentines day. Despite taking a 2-0 half time lead thanks to goals from Rod Wallace and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the Whites were pegged back to 2-2 before Hasselbaink popped up to send the hosts into the last 8.

Simon Grayson doesn’t have particular good memories of Birmingham City! He was sacked following a 4-1 home defeat to the Blues at the end of January 2012. Leeds actually took the lead thanks to a strike from Ross McCormack but 4 goals from Nikola Zigic ensured it proved to be Graysons last stand as Leeds boss.

Five Who Played for Both:
Jermaine Pennant – Pennant joined Leeds on loan from Arsenal in August 2003 and made 36 appearances for the Whites scoring 2 goals in the process. He then went on loan to join Oldham both on loan and permanently before a move to loan transpired in January 2008 (originally on loan). His stay at Elland Road lasted 3 and ½ years and he made 144 appearances scoring 11 times.

Robbie Blake – The Middlesbrough born player joined Birmingham from Burnley in January 2005, but his stay at St Andrews proved a short one as he only made 13 appearances for the side scoring twice, before joining Leeds in July 2005. At Elland Road he featured 87 times scoring 20 goals.

Carl Shutt – Shutt joined Leeds from Bristol City in March 1989 and became an instant hit scoring a hat trick on his debut at home to Bournemouth. In total Shutt made106 appearances scoring on 23 occasions. He moved to Birmingham in August 1993 making 31 appearances, scoring 4 times.
