UNITED DETERMINED - REDFEARN

Head coach Neil Redfearn says his side are eager to avert their recent form...

United head coach Neil Redfearn insists his side are determined to get back to winning ways and believes the forthcoming international break will allow him to truly put his stamp on things.

Redfearn oversaw three wins from his four games in caretaker charge earlier this season, but United have not tasted victory in any of their last seven outings following Saturday’s defeat at Cardiff.

His side now face Charlton and Blackpool this week in an Elland Road double-header as they look to enter the two-week break on a high note.

"They’re determined," said Redfearn. "I think that they know that they’re going to be put back on track.

"I think that we’ve got a tough week of games and then we’ve got the international break when we can really bed things down.

"We can really put the principles back in place which we had before which were getting us wins and getting us results.

"But it’s a process. It’s come at a time when we’ve had a tough game on Saturday and then we’ve got two games in a week to get through until we get to that point.

"The concentration levels and the determination and the focus to get these results are there to be seen."

Redfearn admitted his frustration following Saturday's 3-1 loss at Cardiff, his first game as the club's permanent head coach, but says his side can learn from some of the encouraging stats in South Wales.

"I’m not a big man for stats if I’m honest because obviously the most important stat is the score, but I looked at the stats on Saturday and we had 53 per cent possession, they had 47," he said.

"In a game that looked like they had won comfortably, they obviously hadn’t.

"They had something like 14 shots, we had 10. They had five on target, we had four.

"But I think the biggest acid test of your weight of possession is that I think they had forced six corners and we had one.

"So they had obviously been in and around our final third more than we had been in and around their final third so that’s something that we’ve got to be mindful of.

"We’ve got to be a little bit more positive in possession, we’ve got to play forward quicker. We’ve got to get up there and support quicker and make sides feel threatened."
