U21S: TWO-GOAL MULHERN REFLECTS ON WIN

Striker discusses Monday's 3-0 win over Bristol City after hitting a brace...

Frank Mulhern says he was just glad to help the team out after stepping off the bench to net twice as our Under-21s beat Bristol City 3-0 on Monday afternoon.

The young striker, a half-time replacement for Lee Erwin, doubled United’s advantage at Thorp Arch with a composed finish on the turn just moments after Casper Sloth had opened the scoring.

And Mulhern bagged his second of the afternoon just two minutes later, powering a header into the bottom corner as the youngsters eased to victory.

“I’m happy to come on and get two goals in the second half, I enjoyed coming on,” he told leedsunited.com.

“Paul Hart told me to work hard and just get about the pitch and hold it up well.

“That’s what you aim to do when you come off the bench and try and get a goal. You just want to help the team out.”

Mulhern, 18, signed his first professional contract over the summer and has featured four times for the U21s so far this season, hitting three goals along the way.

He is comfortable operating in a number of attacking roles but says playing behind the main striker is his preferred position.

“I like dropping off and getting on the ball and making things happen,” he said.

“I can hold it up but I like playing just off the striker in the number ten role. I can play both roles, though.

“It’s good to get two goals and get my name out there so I can try and start the next game.”
