Steve Evans has confirmed that Sam Byram has been offered fresh terms by United as the club look to address his contract situation.

Byram's current deal at Elland Road is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning his future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months.

"I know that Sam was made a fresh offer earlier in the week to extend his contract," Evans said at Thursday's pre-match press conference. "It's a positive step for the club.

“I had a catch up with Sam and the honest truth is that he wanted to speak to his dad. I’ll see where that goes.

“He’s trained well and signing or not signing, he conducts himself properly. He’s a lovely young man. It’s certainly an improved offer (to the previously tabled offer).”
