REDFEARN HOPES TO REWARD FANS

Head coach preparing to be backed by bumper away support at Blackburn...

Head coach Neil Redfearn is hoping his side can match the hopes of United’s travelling support, with just short of 6,900 away fans set to make Saturday’s trip (3pm) to Blackburn.

It will be the biggest away following of any Football League game so far this season and United’s biggest since last year’s trip to Ewood Park, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.

"It’s an unbelievable following," said Redfearn. "Our supporters are second to none, there are no two ways about it.

"They’ll be really vocal again on Saturday. The good thing about Leeds fans is that if it’s good, they’ll get behind you and if it’s not so good, they’ll let you know.

"It’s the sort of backing and the sort of support that you want. It’s up to us to make sure that we put on a performance and give them something to cheer about.

"We’re more than capable, we’ve got to start to be more consistent now in what we’re doing.

"I think to be fair to the supporters, they can see we’re trying to do the right things.

"We’re trying to get in a position where we are a force again."

Blackburn won both meetings between the two clubs last season and come into the game sitting just one point short of the play-offs in seventh place.

But although Redfearn is expecting a good test at Ewood Park, the United head coach has backed his side's capabilities of getting a result.

"It’s going to be a tough game for us, they’re a good side," he said. "He’s done well, Gary Bowyer.

"I think what they’ve done, Blackburn, is go through the process last season that we’re going through this season.

"His side has found its feet. It’s more settled, it’s more consistent and it’s roughly the same side week in, week out.

"They’ve got themselves in that position and it’s going to be a tough game for us, but on our day we’re more than capable.

"We’ve proved it to ourselves. The players have shown me now – as a coach I can expect a performance and it’s up to us to deliver it."
