CARAYOL SIGNS UP FROM BORO

Winger joins on loan for the remainder of the season...

We are delighted to confirm the signing of winger Mustapha Carayol on loan from Middlesbrough for the remainder of the season.

The 27-year-old becomes United’s second arrival of the January transfer window following the addition of midfielder Liam Bridcutt from Sunderland earlier in the week.

Carayol, who will wear shirt number 18, is eligible for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie at home to Rotherham United after the relevant permission was gained from Middlesbrough.

The winger told leedsunited.com : “This is a great opportunity for me to come here and hopefully play some regular football at a very big club.

“I know the gaffer and Paul Raynor from my time at Crawley and I am looking forward to working with both of them again here.

“It was a move which happened very quickly and one which I am delighted to have been able to finalise so soon.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with the lads, I’ve got my first training session this morning and I’m available to play in the cup should I be picked.

“I’d love to make my debut at Elland Road in front of the Leeds United supporters. I’ve played there before and I know what it’s all about. It’s a special place to play football.”

Carayol, a Gambia international, has previously spent time on loan at Huddersfield Town earlier this season, where he made 15 appearances, scoring three goals along the way, before recently returning to the Riverside Stadium.

He joined Boro from Bristol Rovers in 2012 and has made over 50 appearances for the Teesiders after working his way up through the lower divisions with spells at the likes of Torquay United and Lincoln City.

The winger’s career began at MK Dons and it was from there where he enjoyed a productive loan spell under Steve Evans and his assistant Paul Raynor at Crawley Town.
