BURNLEY: MIXED FEELINGS FOR SOL

BURNLEY: MIXED FEELINGS FOR SOL

United captain reflects on Saturday's 1-1 draw...

Sol Bamba admitted to having "mixed feelings" following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, but the defender was happy to take a point considering the visitors’ recent Premier League experience.

Bamba, United’s new club captain, put in a Man-of-the-Match-winning display at Elland Road as an absorbing opening day draw was contested in front of the Sky cameras.

Uwe Rosler’s side looked to have clinched a win late on when Mirco Antenucci stepped off the bench to hit a stunning 83rd-minute opener, but fellow substitute Sam Vokes levelled for Burnley with a header just three minutes later.

Bamba, speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, said: “It’s mixed feelings because we took the lead.

“It was an end-to-end game but I think we deserved it.

“They’re a great team, coming down from the Premier League, so overall I think we’re happy with a point.”

Asked about United’s aims for the new season, Bamba said: “We want to do better than last year.

“We have to be realistic – we’ve got a good squad but it is young and only the second year in the Championship.

“We definitely want to do better than last year and we’ll see where that takes us.

“It’s definitely more settled now. They’ve done their part upstairs and have done their jobs, now it’s up to us to make sure we do it on the pitch.

“Like we saw today, we’ve done that and hopefully we can continue for the rest of the season.”
