Uwe Rosler says his team are "exactly where we want them to be" in terms of preparation for the new campaign as he looks ahead to Wednesday evening’s pre-season double-header.

Alongside assistant Rob Kelly, Rosler will take charge of Wednesday’s friendly visit to York City, while first-team coach Julian Darby and goalkeeping coach Richard Hartis will oversee a United XI in action at Tadcaster Albion (both 7pm kick-offs).

Rosler has confirmed that “six or seven” senior players will be involved at Tadcaster, with increasing their amount of minutes on the pitch his main priority ahead of the tour of Austria and Norway.

“To make it clear, I’ve not picked a strong 11 and a weak 11, we want to make sure that our whole squad gets enough playing time and everyone gets up to speed,” the head coach explained.

“They will only get that when we give our whole squad the opportunity to play.

“They are playing two games on Wednesday night – one in York and one in Tadcaster – and we are splitting the group.

“People shouldn’t read into the formation too much.”

A 1-1 draw at Harrogate Town got United’s pre-season schedule underway on Friday night, and Rosler insists he is happy with the progress his side have made over the summer so far.

“I feel they’re exactly where we want them to be,” he said.

“I think Wednesday night will be a harder test. We want our players to play longer, to get more match minutes.

“I want to get a good result on Wednesday heading into the last three games we have against top opponents.

“I’m very happy to have these sorts of games because a lot of the qualities we will meet on Wednesday, we will meet against Burnley.

“We have to cope with that and we have to express ourselves and play in our own way as well.

“I’m looking forward to it because we will get some good answers in both games which we have.”

Midfielder Tom Adeyemi joined on a season-long loan from Cardiff City on Tuesday, but United’s fifth signing of the summer so far is not expected to feature at Bootham Crescent as Rosler focuses on getting him up to speed for the tour.

Asked about potential further signings ahead of Saturday’s departure for Austria, the head coach replied: “We’re not rushing. We always want to improve.

“We’re trying out the squad we have and are assessing the squad we have. We might have some solutions within our own squad.

“The next games will give us the answers that we’re looking for.”
