IPSWICH: ROSLER ADMITS DISAPPOINTMENT

Head coach reflects on Tuesday's Elland Road defeat...

Uwe Rosler admitted his disappointment after seeing United fall to their first league defeat of the season at home to Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

A first-half header from defender Tommy Smith proved to be the difference on a frustrating night at Elland Road for Rosler’s side.

United had penalty appeals turned down in both halves but were unable to test Ipswich goalkeeper Dean Gerken as the result brought their unbeaten start to an end.

“It was disappointing,” the head coach said. “The game turned out the way we thought, especially in the first half – they were very physical and went back to basics after their 5-1 defeat.

“They made the game a scrap and we couldn’t make the game into our game, pass and move and get the ball down to play.

“We didn’t have enough spells of doing that. We wanted to get on the ball from the back but they tried to pressure us.

“I think we needed a little more bravery to get on the ball at times. When we get the ball down and put three or four passes together, we look like a decent football team.

“In the second half I felt they drew us into their long-ball game, which they obviously did better than us.

“They played the time down and some decisions went against us.

“Overall, a disappointing evening and we have to learn to play against teams who make it difficult for us to get on the ball.”
