FIRST OF MANY FOR MOWATT?

FIRST OF MANY FOR MOWATT?

Alex Mowatt on first goal of the season…

Alex Mowatt was United’s goalscorer in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Birmingham and the midfielder is hoping to get on the scoresheet more this season.

Saturday was Mowatt’s second appearance of the season and the 19-year-old thinks that the draw was a fair result for both sides.

“I think that everyone is happy but we thought we could have won the game,” said Alex. “But they could have won it as well so a draw is probably a fair result.

“We got on the ball more and started to dominate possession in the second half. We got further up in their half and we were passing the ball in their half.

“In the first half we played more in our half and we weren’t really going anywhere, but in the second we got further up the pitch. We started doing more and created some chances.”

Having come through United’s Academy the midfielder is no stranger to scoring but he is now wanting to get his name on the scoresheet for the first team more often.

“I’d like to score more goals,” stated Mowatt. “I scored quite a lot in the Under-18s and I’d like to get more for the first team.

“I thought I could have had another on Saturday with the header but I want more goals.

“Someone blocked the shot and the ball came out to me. I just wanted to get it onto my left foot and when I did that I just wanted to shoot.”

United had chances to win the game but with Bournemouth away on Tuesday evening Alex admits a point away from home is never a bad thing.

“I thought that the momentum was with us after the goal but it wasn’t to be,” said United’s goalscorer. “We gave it a good go but they had good chances as well.

“It is never a bad thing getting a point away from home. We’ve got Bournemouth away on Tuesday now so we’ll go there.

“We have a big squad now. In training everyone is fighting for places which is good competition, but it is healthy competition. I think everyone is happy around the place.”
