CLUB NOT TO APPEAL BYRAM DISMISSAL

No appeal from club on Sam's red card...

Leeds United can confirm that the club have reluctantly taken the decision not to appeal against the red card issued to Sam Byram at Watford on Saturday August 23.

This decision has been taken on the basis that the footage of the incident is inconclusive, and in order to overturn the decision then the club has to display in accordance with the rules of the Football Association that this was a wrong decision. If the appeal is lost then the FA has the power to increase the suspension.

Sam Byram has commented: "I am very upset, disappointed and frustrated that we cannot pursue an appeal but I understand the reasons why and I want to do what is best for the club. I would like to be very clear on something though, contrary to media reports over the weekend I absolutely did not headbutt the Watford player and I believe, like the club do it was a very harsh sending off decision.

"I have never been sent off in my career, never ever been involved in any violent conduct and I am hugely disappointed that this will now be on my disciplinary record but we have to move on from it."

The United defender will now miss the next three matches; Bradford City away in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers at home on Saturday and Birmingham City on Saturday September 13.
