MATCH-WINNERS IN BOTH BOXES – ROSLER

Head coach salutes the recent arrivals of Sol Bamba and Chris Wood...

Uwe Rosler believes United have "match-winners in both boxes" following the recent signings of Sol Bamba and Chris Wood.

Bamba completed a permanent move to Elland Road last week from Palermo after impressing while on loan during 2014/15, while Wood became United’s fourth summer signing on Wednesday morning, joining from Leicester City in a four-year deal.

Rosler admits that he still hopes for “one or two” further additions before the start of the new season, but the head coach could not hide his delight at the club’s latest two recruits, hailing Bamba as someone who can be “a leader in the group”.

“Sol was very important,” said Rosler. “He has fantastic attributes that are very important for this league.

“I also think he can be a leader in the group because it’s natural to him. He’s been in England and he understands the English culture and mentality of the Championship.

“He’s also been in Italy and speaks several languages and can bridge the gap. He can unify the dressing room. That’s very important.

“It’s a long season and in the Championship you need mentality and morale. Not just over four weeks, but over 10 months in good times and bad times. He’s a very important person to achieve that.”

On the signing of Wood, Rosler added: “This football club needs match-winners. Last season we could have scored more goals.

“That we’ve got a player like Chris, who is so young but already proven at that level, is fantastic news.

“Without the financial help of Mr Cellino, it wouldn’t have happened. We can all thank him for that.

“Now, we need to get the best out of him, ease him into the team and give him confidence to score goals.

“We have another match-winner in our own box in Sol Bamba. That’s what the Championship is all about – match-winners in both boxes.”

Rosler now remains optimistic of welcoming further new faces to the club in the coming weeks, but insists he has been pleased with what he’s seen from the current squad so far.

“There will hopefully be one or two more additions,” he said. “We need a little bit of pace in the team.

“But I’ve been delighted with what I’ve seen in training – we have a lot of good qualities here.

“We’re always looking and we always have our eyes open. When there’s some work that we can do, I think the chairman is very supportive to us.”
