Five stats

Gordon Strachan has happy memories of playing Blackburn Rovers. On Easter Saturday 1993, captain fantastic helped himself to a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Kenny Dalglish's side at Elland Road. Strachan scored two penalties before half time, before firing home his third in the second half. Leeds' other goals came from Rod Wallace and Lee Chapman.

Another player to get a hat-trick in this fixture was Blackburn’s Alan Shearer in October 1993's 3-3 draw. Shearer had given Blackburn a 2-0 lead before a Gary McAllister penalty reduced the scoreline to 2-1. Shearer then hit a third, before a volley from Jon Newsome and an own goal from Tim Sherwood ensured the spoils were shared.

Alfie Haaland will have happy memories of playing against Blackburn, as he helped himself to two superb goals in a 4-0 home win in March 1998. Leeds' other goalscorers that night were Lee Bowyer and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Robbie Fowler heaped more misery on his former Liverpool boss Graeme Souness a 3-1 victory over Blackburn in March 2002. Fowler scored two quick-fire goals in the first half, before Matt Jansen managed to pull one back. A third goal from Harry Kewell then finished the game off.

We didn’t know it at the time, but our 2-1 win over Blackburn on October 4 2003 proved to be last United victory for then manager Peter Reid. Two first half goals from Seth Johnson settled the nerves, before Dino Baggio pulled one back late on for the visitors.
