Neil Redfearn on the importance of playing at Elland Road for the Under-21s...

Academy manager and head of coaching Neil Redfearn has underlined the importance of playing at Elland Road for his Under-21s side, ahead of Monday night’s game with Colchester.

United’s youngsters currently sit top of the Northern Professional Development League and their last run out on the hallowed turf saw them blitz Doncaster Rovers in a 6-0 win, with the likes of Adryan, Chris Dawson and Brian Montenegro all starring.

Over 600 turned up to cheer on United’s prospects that evening and fans are encouraged to attend again on Monday to catch a glimpse of the future. The game will also be shown live on LUTV.

"It’s great playing at Elland Road, it’s great for the kids," said Redfearn.

"You always get that feel for the place and we get a good crowd. We got a good crowd for the last game against Doncaster.

"The supporters are genuinely interested, they love to see their own and it’s good for the kids to go out there and put a performance on.

"They’re great occasions, getting used to the facilitites and the stadium so it’s going to bode them in good stead."
