A GREAT RELIEF – BOSS

Brian McDermott gives his verdict on the Blackpool victory…

United boss Brian McDermott spoke of his relief after seeing his side win for the first time in six league matches.

A goal in either half from Luke Murphy sealed the win and the three points all but ended any threat of relegation.

“It was a great relief and that needed that win, we really did,” said the manager.

“There were lots of things going on before the game that were positive. The players got paid on Friday and we should all be thankful that Massimo Cellino is here.

“I didn’t know where this place was going and I was worried for our club.

“It’s a good win and it was a really important win.

“There were two really good goals and I was really pleased for Luke Murphy. I thought his finishes were excellent.

“It’s a really good win for us and Saturday was an important day.”

The manager changed his matchday routine on Saturday by wearing a tracking instead of his usual suit, and spent much of the game watching on from dug-out instead of the technical area.

“It was actually my daughter that said to me to put a tracksuit on,” explained the boss. “When I was in the Championship before I used to wear a tracksuit and we won the league.

“So I put the tracksuit on and I stood back in the dugout.

“I stood in there for something different. Sometimes you just try and change things around.

“Does it mean anything? Probably not, but we won the game on Saturday and we are absolutely delighted.”
