\'BIG JOB\' FOR REDFEARN

Neil Redfearn on becoming United's head coach and the task ahead...

Neil Redfearn spoke of his delight at being named United’s new head coach, but says he is well aware of the task ahead following defeat to Cardiff in his opening game.

Redfearn’s side fell to a 3-1 defeat in South Wales on Saturday, despite Alex Mowatt’s strike threatening a late second-half comeback.

The former Academy manager and head of coaching has penned a 12-month rolling contract at Elland Road with a clause which would allow a return to the Academy.

"It’s a fantastic thing for me", said Redfearn. "As a young boy I supported the club and I always looked out for Leeds’ results.

"This is a big job. There’s been a lot of change, a lot of players have come in.

"It’s integrating these young players with the players that have signed."

Redfearn enjoyed success while in caretaker charge earlier this season, taking 10 points from a possible 12, and he hopes to re-discover that form after seven games without a win.

"I said in my last caretaker spell it’s going to be two steps forward and one back, well Saturday might be one back," he said.

"We’ve got to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off.

"We’ve got to get back to the stuff we were doing before with regards to being thorough in and around our own box and being inventive and creative in and around their box.

"Then we’ll start getting results."
