UNITED RARING TO RESPOND

Lewis Cook says the reaction to Blackburn defeat has been positive...

Midfielder Lewis Cook says the team have picked themselves up quickly following Saturday’s defeat at Blackburn and are now raring to face league leaders Derby at Elland Road.

Souleymane Doukara put Neil Redfearn’s side in front during an encouraging performance at Ewood Park, but Jordan Rhodes netted twice in the final 20 minutes to snatch the three points.

The winning goal – a contentious penalty three minutes from time – made it all the more gut-wrenching for the players and travelling fans, although Cook insists the team has responded well in the days that followed.

"I think we got over it quite quickly which we need to do – the games come fast," he said.

"We’ve been training well these last couple of days. We’re doing the right things, we were doing the right things on Saturday but we just need to finish those games well.

"In the last 10 or 20 minutes we just need to do a bit better and manage the games more and get them wins.

"Training’s been good. We’ve got over it.

"I thought for the majority of the game we were all over them.

"We passed well, we created some chances. We were unlucky to hit the post in the end.

"I thought we controlled the game really well, we just need to finish games better."

Derby are next up for Redfearn’s men and despite the Rams leading the division by three points, Cook says United should not fear anybody ahead of the Elland Road showdown.

"In this league anything can happen really," said the midfielder. "It doesn’t matter where you are in the table, each team is going to be good.

"They’ve all got their weaknesses so we can try and exploit that and hope we get the win.

Asked if he feels confident, Cook replied: "Definitely. It’s the crowd, the stadium.

"It’s Leeds United so it’s a big club. We’re confident."

Playing in his first season at senior level, Cook has already featured 17 times this season and has established himself as a regular in the side.

"I think we’re doing well," he said. "I’m happy with myself and we just need to carry on I think.

"I’m happy to be playing but as a team I think we’re doing well.

"We’re playing good football, we’re trying hard and we just need to carry on doing that and then get the wins."
