DALLAS PROUD OF NORTHERN IRELAND

United winger reflects on Euro 2016 exit...

Stuart Dallas says Northern Ireland should be proud of their achievements at Euro 2016 despite their exit from the tournament.

Dallas, who featured in all four of his country’s fixtures in France, completed the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s last-16 meeting with Wales but was unable to help Michael O’Neill’s side progress to the quarter-finals as Gareth McAuley’s second-half own goal settled the tie.

“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved,” said the United winger. “But we’re disappointed too.

“We knew we could give them a good game, like we have done with everybody we’ve played in the competition.

“We were confident going into the game that we could get a positive result. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t do that.

“We’re obviously disappointed with the outcome of the result – we put a lot into the game but didn’t get that bit of luck - Wales got that bit of luck with the own goal.

“But everybody is proud of what we’ve achieved.

“We’ll go back now, have a break and go back to our clubs and then get back together in September ready to go again.”
