DENTON PENS NEW UNITED DEAL

Young full-back signs three-year contract at Elland Road...

United full-back Tyler Denton has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new three-year deal.

The 20-year-old Academy graduate, who scored the winner on his debut in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup tie at Luton Town, was previously under contract until next summer but has penned fresh terms to keep him at Elland Road until at least 2019.

“This week could possibly be the best week of my life,” he told leedsunited.com.

“I’m so grateful to the gaffer and his coaching staff for trusting me for my debut. To score was a dream come true and this just tops it off.

“I signed a one-year deal at the start of the season and it was an incentive to do better things and keep trying to impress the gaffer. This new contract now gives me a stable footing and gives me something to build on.

“I don’t want Tuesday night to be the be all and end all – I want to carry on doing good things for Leeds United. The experience on Tuesday will do me good but the hard work starts now.

“My next chance will come when it comes. I’ve got great trust in Charlie (Taylor) as he’s a great player, but I’ll be prepared if my chance comes.”

Reflecting on Tuesday’s stunning strike and a dream debut at Kenilworth Road, Denton added: “All of the lads have been hammering me – I haven’t stopped smiling since the final whistle!

“But I wouldn’t be here without my family, who have supported me throughout, my coaches and school teachers – everyone who has supported me.

“I’ll keep working hard on the training pitch, keep showing the gaffer what I can do and how determined I am to get to where I want to be.

“I was seven when I first joined and I remember coming up with a few of the boys who are still here now like Mowatt and Lewie. We’ve all grown up together, so it’s been a good journey.

“It’s always been a dream to play for Leeds – I’m a fan myself. I used to come to the games with my dad back when we were in the Champions League and the Premier League.”
