David Hockaday on his relationship with the owner…

United head coach David Hockaday has insisted that his relationship with Massimo Cellino is solid after the pair spoke about the future on Sunday.

In his pre-match press conference the head coach’s relationship with the owner of the football club was a hot topic and David says he and president have spoken at length since Saturday’s defeat at Watford.

“I’ve heard about everything in the media and I spoke to the president at length on Sunday about the future, about the players and about the turning point on Saturday,” said the head coach.

“We also spoke about how comfortable we both felt at 1-1. We were all in on Monday and worked on certain things and what we have to improve on and obviously looked towards the massive game on Wednesday against Bradford.

"We are trying to turn this big ship around I’ll continue to do that to the best of my ability.”

The head coach went on to explain how they are both looking to put Leeds United in a better situation.

“We talked about the football club,” added Hockaday. “We talked about the game, emotions and how we can take this football club forward.

“We also talked about getting better players in before the end of the transfer window so that Leeds United can be in the best situation possible. So it was all about the future and it went on and on.

“Whatever anybody else thinks I have great conversations with the president and they are very positive and the president is very passionate about this football club.

“He is determined and he will turn this ship around. For 10 years it hasn’t been good enough. It needs sorting out from top to bottom, on and off the field. He is going to sort it out, it is a work in progress.

“He is so passionate about the football club and he loves the passion of the fans and the level of support.

“He is disappointed with where we are and he takes it personally. He was upset on Saturday and he was angry with himself for many reasons.

“That is the sort of guy he is and that is why he is a successful businessman. And that is how I am and that is why I have had 40 years in professional football.”
