A POSITIVE POINT - BYRAM

A POSITIVE POINT - BYRAM

United full-back satisfied with 1-1 draw at Norwich...

Sam Byram says he was content to leave Carrow Road with a point on Tuesday night after Souleymane Doukara’s strike earned a 1-1 draw with Norwich.

United found themselves under pressure for large parts of the game and fell behind on 59 minutes to Russell Martin’s header, but Darko Milanic’s side soon responded through Doukara’s fifth goal of the season.

Byram returned to the team, completing the full 90 minutes at right back, and the 21-year-old believes the draw was a valuable result.

"They’re a very good team," said Byram. "They should be back in the Premier League with the quality they’ve got so to get a point off them, I think we feel like we’ve done a good job.

"In the first half, you could see the width was there.

"The two full-backs were overlapping and I think in the second half when we changed formation a little bit it made us a little bit more compact and stopped them getting out as easily.

"I think the pressure we put on them in the second half lead to our goal.

"We did a lot of defending and a lot of people had to put their bodies on the line, a lot of blocks and shots stopped and headers out the box. To get the point, I’m pleased."

Byram also hailed Doukara, who slotted a calm finish into the bottom corner of John Ruddy’s goal just four minutes after Norwich had gone in front.

"You saw there that you don’t have to smash it to put it in," said the full-back.

"He’s placed them in, he knows where the goal is and I think he gives defenders a problem with his pace and his power.

"He’s a big strong boy, he puts himself about.

"I think we did well to come straight back into it, it shows the fight that we’ve got in the team.

"I think we played good stuff in parts. I think sometimes we can relax on the ball when we’ve got more time.

"But sometimes you’ve got to grind out results and to come here and get the draw is a good result."
