SAM WINS THE BIG PRIZES

Teenager takes centre stage...

Sam Byram

United youngster Sam Byram collected three of the main prizes at The Player Of The Year Awards on Saturday evening.

The 19-year-old was named the fans Player Of The Year, Players Player Of The Year, and Young Player Of The Year.

On receiving the Player Of The Year Award, Sam said "I never expected this. There's some great players at the club, and this is a real honour. I was lucky in the Wolves game at the start of the season because Leesy got injured and I've been lucky enough to keep my place."

Sam was also nominated for Goal Of The Season for his strike against Oxford United, but Ross McCormack took the honours for his wonderful goal against Tottenham.

Fastest Goal In Open Play, sponsored by Ebel Watches and Ogdens of Harrogate, went to Aidy White for his Capital One Cup opener against Everton, and the Community Award went to Leigh Bromby.

Other awards saw Ken Bates present The Chairman's Award to Tom Lees while the Peter Lorimer Award to fans went to Jonathan Ellis from the Lincolnshire Whites.

Almost 1,000 people attended the ceremony in the Centenary Pavilion.
