WARNOCK HAILS INCREDIBLE SUPPORT

Full-back disappointed not to reward travelling army at Blackburn...

United full-back Stephen Warnock hailed the "incredible" number of travelling fans at Blackburn on Saturday, but spoke of his disappointment at not sending them away from Ewood Park with a result.

Neil Redfearn’s side were backed by 6,839 away supporters – the Football League’s biggest away following so far this season – and they looked on course for a result thanks to Souleymane Doukara’s first-half strike.

But Jordan Rhodes netted twice after the break – profiting from a defensive mix-up before converting a late penalty – to leave the travelling army ruing consecutive away defeats.

"It’s incredible," said Warnock. "We’re probably the only club in the country, especially in the Championship, that would bring that many away fans.

"It was a great following and all credit to the fans. They deserved a lot more and I think up until the goal, we were probably going to give them that.

"The mistakes changed the game. We’re disappointed for both the fans and ourselves."

Warnock also admits that United need to learn to see out games, after squandering their lead and failing to win for the fourth time in the last seven games.

"You’d rather play rubbish and win the game. That’s one of the disappointing things," he said.

"That’s a side we need to get into ourselves. We’ve put in some great first-half displays and then played well for spells in the second half, but we never carry it out for 90 minutes.

"Redders has said that’s something he wants to address and knock out of us and we’ll keep working hard on the training pitch to try and sort that out.

"We all know what this league is like. You don’t necessarily need to be the best team to get out of it.

"You’ve got to be organised, resilient and well-drilled. At the moment we are to a certain point, but we’re conceding silly goals."

League leaders Derby are next up for Redfearn’s men and Warnock knows the importance of responding well at Elland Road.

"We need a result, we need to get points on the board," he said. "We need to start climbing the table.

"I’m sure Redders will try and lift the lads during the week and hopefully the senior boys can do that as well and try and help us."
