CROWNING OF THE LAST CHAMPIONS

CROWNING OF THE LAST CHAMPIONS

The last time we were were presented with the Football League championship...

Saturday May 2 1992 was a historic day in English football.

Not only was it the day we were presented with the 1991/92 Football League Championship trophy, but with the advent of the Premier League, it was the final time a top-flight side were crowned Football League Champions.

We had, of course, sealed the title a week earlier, beating Sheffield United 3-2 at Bramall Lane and Liverpool ended Manchester United's hopes with a 2-0 win at Anfield.

Over 32,000 packed Elland Road on a sunny May afternoon for the visit of Norwich City and a Rod Wallace goal secured a 1-0 win amid a real party atmosphere.
