REDFEARN: FORM GOES OUT THE WINDOW

Head coach previews the Yorkshire derby at Huddersfield...

Neil Redfearn admits that form will count for nothing in Saturday’s Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield - a game which he believes his players should be relishing.

United travel to the John Smith’s Stadium on the back of three games unbeaten, including a win over league leaders Bournemouth, while 15th-placed Huddersfield have suffered defeat in their previous two outings.

"It’s a local derby which levels things off – league positions and standings – derbies are always like that," said Redfearn.

"We know it’ll be 100 miles per hour to begin with and it’s about who’s got that presence of mind and that bit of quality to undo the opposition when they get the chance to play.

"They’re great games to play in. They’re great games for the lads to look forward to and it’s a good game for us on Saturday.

"We want to try and go on a bit of a run now. We’ve proved that we can.

"We’ve found a different way, which is good, and all concerned have got to take credit for that. The lads are taking to the new way of playing and the new system, they’re getting confidence from it.

"If we can keep that in place and pick the results up to go with it, then there’s nothing to stop us going on a run."

Redfearn’s assistant Steve Thompson only arrived at Elland Road from Huddersfield last month, meaning United could hold an extra advantage over Saturday’s opponents.

"He knows them, he knows their players," said Redfearn.

"We went and watched them against Wigan so we know what they’re about.

"They’ve got a couple of different ways of playing and they’ll probably be aware that Steve knows what they’re about and what they do.

"The most important thing from our point of view is that we concentrate on us. We’ve got to make sure that we’re right first.

"If we don’t perform and we don’t do want we’re supposed to do then we’ll make it hard for ourselves.

"It’s important that we get to the same standards, play at that tempo, pressure well and rise to the occasion of the derby. We want the presence of mind to play our football as well."

Redfearn will be forced into making at least one change for Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield, with defender Giuseppe Bellusci serving the first game of his two-match ban, while new signings Sol Bamba and Granddi Ngoyi could come into contention for their debuts.

"We’ll have a look and see what we’ve got," said the head coach.

"We’ve got one change to make because Bellusci is suspended but we’ve been gradually trying to keep things a bit more settled in this different direction we’re going.

"Certain players have stayed in and certain players have changes a little bit, but we’ve got one or two ways of doing it.

"We’re mindful of what Huddersfield are like and what they’re about. We’re also mindful of the good things we’ve done in the last three games."

Redfearn also allayed any injury fears surrounding striker Steve Morison, who limped off in the second half of the win over Bournemouth.

"He’s fine," said Redfearn. "He went to see a specialist and it was only minor like we thought.

"But he’s put a shift in and led the line well in the last couple of games.

"It’s a tough gig, playing the loan striker, but he holds the play up and gives us an extra dimension. He gives the three behind him the chance to get up with him."
