ANOTHER STEP FORWARD - UWE ON EVERTON

Head coach reflects on the 2-0 pre-season friendly win...

Uwe Rosler hailed Saturday’s 2-0 friendly win over Everton as "another step forward" for his side.

Second-half goals from Alex Mowatt and Chris Wood sealed the victory in an impressive United display at Elland Road.

"I think it was another step forward, we continued improving,” the head coach said.

“We're not where we want to be, but we are coming closer and closer.

"Everton had some younger players in, but some experienced players in also.

“But we also have an Under-23 team with some experienced players so it was a good account of ourselves.

"We finished our pre-season in style and we are now concentrating from Monday onwards.

"The main thing is that we are all marching together in the same direction and from day one that has been the case.

"We can't lose our feet on the ground when we win against Everton, but we also can't lose our head when we lose a game."

17,057 supporters were in attendance for Rosler’s first taste of the home dug-out at Elland Road, leaving the head coach overwhelmed by the support.

"We filled the stadium today,” he said. “It's something new for me in a friendly.

"The atmosphere was fantastic. I’m not used to 17 thousand fans at a pre-season friendly – it inspired the players.”

On Wood's goal, the striker's first in Leeds colours, Rosler added: "He deserved it.

"In the first half he was really strong and held the ball up for us under pressure.

"Everybody in the stadium could see that we’ve signed a quality striker.

"He earned the goal and I’m really happy for him that he’s off the mark."
