Alex Mowatt believes United’s work in training is starting to reflect in their pre-season performances after completing the tour of Austria and Norway.

United are yet to win a friendly this summer, but the recent 2-1 defeats to Bundesliga sides Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim showed glimmers of the type of the high pressing football Uwe Rosler wants his side to play.

Mowatt said: "They were both good teams – they both got it down and passed it. We had to do a lot of running and we didn’t have a lot of possession.

"But I thought we did better on Saturday than we did on Tuesday night.

"We haven’t been under the gaffer for that long but I think our training is starting to pay off in the games. We did a lot better on Saturday.

"It was good to go out there. We did a lot of hard work and I think it showed in the first half on Saturday.

"Everyone’s fitness is getting better and when we’re fitter the high-press game will work better."
