THREE POINTS IMPORTANT TO RUDY

THREE POINTS IMPORTANT TO RUDY

Rudy Austin on Saturday’s away victory at Doncaster…

United skipper Rudy Austin says that Saturday’s game at Doncaster may not have been the best spectacle - but the three points were the most important thing.

The midfielder says that the team stuck to their task and admits it was tough, but United’s qualities and hard work pulled the side through.

“It was very good, we stuck to the task,” said the United skipper. “It wasn’t the best game but we won and the three points are very important to us.

“It was tough on Saturday, Doncaster can play. We got the lead and in the second half it was hard. They came out and started passing but the defence and Paddy (Kenny) did very well.

“Then we caught them on the break and scored. I think that it was a good performance in that aspect of the game.

“The wind really affected the game, I think that you could see that. It wasn’t the best game but it was important that we got the points.”

Rudy was the third of three United goalscorers on Saturday and the skipper wants to add more goals to his game.

The Jamaican also says that togetherness is the key to United’s recent success with everyone at the club going in the right direction.

“It was long overdue to be honest. I should have more and I want to score more goals,” said Rudy.

“I’m not putting pressure on myself but sometimes I get into goalscoring positions and I want to finish them because if I can get some goals it is good for the team.

“It is a good group that we have here. Everyone wants to play and everyone wants to win so the competition is good in the team. Everyone wants to play for the manager so that is good.

“It was a good team performance and that is what matters the most.”

United now sit in 6th position, the final of the Play-Off places with the hectic Christmas period now in full flow, but Rudy won’t be getting too carried away.

United now face three matches before 2013 comes to an end starting with Barnsley at Elland Road this Saturday.

“We can’t get carried away,” said Austin. “We have to take things like we did before the Doncaster game.

“We will take it one game at a time and get the results that we need.

“It is nice playing at home. The atmosphere has been unbelievable so we just have to keep that going.”
