REDFEARN WELCOMES RUDY RETURN

REDFEARN WELCOMES RUDY RETURN

Team news ahead of our trip to Charlton...

Neil Redfearn will welcome Rodolph Austin back from suspension for Saturday’s visit to Charlton (3pm), while fellow midfielder Lewis Cook will continue to be monitored on his comeback from injury.

Austin served the final game of his three-match ban on Tuesday night after being shown a straight red card in the defeat to Blackburn Rovers a fortnight ago.

Cook, meanwhile, is out of the protective boot he was wearing after straining ankle ligaments while on England Under-19s duty late last month.

"We’ll have to see with Lewis," said Redfearn. "He’s an important player for us and we’ve missed him.

"He’s a really important player and he’s only 18, he’s done fantastically well this season.

"He owes us nothing more, he’s done his bit. It’d be nice to have had him back and playing.

"When you’ve got top players, whatever their ages, if they’re not playing anymore, you miss them. We’ve missed Lewis Cook.

"I think it emphasises what a good young player he is because at 18-years-old, to have such an influence and such a presence, is an unbelievable achievement.

"He’s had a fantastic season but I think we’ve got a duty to the boy and to the football club because he’s a real asset, we want him here for years to come.

"For the sake of a few weeks now, it’s important that he’s fit for years to come."

Austin had been a regular in Redfearn’s side since the start of 2015, but his straight red card came in his first game back from a one-month injury lay-off.

"Rudy is a good player for us and he’s an infectious player," said the head coach.

"He makes people close down and work hard. He epitomises what we do.

"We’ve missed Rudy, as well. That’s two dynamic midfield players who have got that athleticism and we’ve done had them.

"It’ll be good to have Rudy back."
