ACADEMY XI TO FACE U21S ALLSTAR TEAM

A Leeds United Academy XI will provide the opposition for an array of West Yorkshire’s Under-21s footballers as the U21 AllStar game returns for the second consecutive season on Wednesday evening.

Hosted by the West Riding U21 League, in partnership with Sports Recruiting USA, the game will see coaches from leading US colleges cast their eyes over the AllStar team with a view to soccer scholarship recruitment.

The game, which is a 7.30pm kick-off on Wednesday May 4 at Fleet Lane, West Riding County FA, is free to attend.

Event organiser Tom Dent said: “The whole idea behind the AllStar game is to showcase the tremendous talent on show in our U21 league.

“We know some of these players are really talented boys and the opportunity to test themselves against lads from the Leeds United academy will be a great challenge.

“Hopefully, one or two might catch the eye of a club or a US Coach, but we know that most will simply relish the opportunity to represent the league and their clubs in a showcase event.

“The league exists to help the transition between youth and adult football, and this is another stepping stone on that journey.”

As league sponsor, and a partner of West Riding County FA, Sports Recruiting USA have provided invaluable support to the event, and will be hosting their open evening on the same night.

Head of operations, Chris Cousins, said: “As an organisation, we are keen to help young players develop, and ultimately give them the chance to live the dream of a soccer scholarship in America.

“We are holding our open evening on the same night as the AllStar game, and are inviting anyone aged 16-19 to come down and listen to what could be on offer for them.

“This AllStar game, which is an idea inspired by our US links, will hopefully showcase some of the West Yorkshire lads to US coaches, and who knows, maybe one or two will follow that path.”
