BURNLEY: AIDY IN THE FRAME

BURNLEY: AIDY IN THE FRAME

Team news ahead of the weekend game...

Aidy White is set for his first Sky Bet Championship start of the season against Burnley at Elland Road on Saturda (3pm).

With Stephen Warnock missing out through suspension and Adam Drury sidelined due to injury, White will step in at left-back for the clash with the Clarets.

The Academy graduate was linked with a move away from the club during the January transfer window, but boss Brian McDermott is urging him to take his opportunity.

“Aidy did well in pre-season and we’re trying to nail down his position,” said the boss. “We’ve had a good conversation and he wants to play left back.

“There’s been talk of him going away from here, but Aidy has been here since he was nine-years-old and he really wants to play for Leeds United, and I said I would give him every opportunity to do well.

“He’s done well in the Under-21s at left back so I spoke to him on Friday morning and said ‘I’m a man of my word, it’s over to you.’

“I know the fans will get behind him, he’s a Leeds boy, and he’s Leeds fan. I want him to help him and I want him to do as well as he can possibly do.”

Fellow defender Sam Byram is also in contention for a first senior outing of the season, but the boss is giving away few clues about whether a return will come this weekend.

Lee Peltier remains a doubt with the groin injury which saw him sidelined on Wednesday.
