United midfielder Alex Mowatt says he is playing with confidence and believes the team are in a good place as they look to build on Saturday’s win over league leaders Derby.

The 19-year-old, who has been nominated for November’s Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award, has been in fine form for United so far this season with four goals to his name.

Mowatt has established himself as a key fixture in Neil Redfearn’s midfield, starting the last 11 Championship games on the bounce and earning himself and England Under-20s call-up along the way.

"I’m playing with confidence and when you play with confidence, you’ll always play a lot better and try more things," he said.

"I feel a lot stronger and a lot fitter as well."

Mowatt was influential in the 2-0 victory over Derby, teeing up Mirco Antenucci for the opening goal, as Redfearn’s side secured arguably their most impressive result of the campaign at Elland Road.

"Through the week it’s always better once you’ve had a win, everyone’s happier and the fans are happier as well," said Mowatt.

"We’ve just beaten the top of the league so everyone is in a good place, everyone’s happy. It’s good.

"I think we played really well as a team, we dug in. We’ve been playing good football, just not getting the results. At the weekend we did both.

"We played good football and we got the result, that’s what we want to do.

"They’re top of the league and were in the play-off final last year.

"We’ve got a lot of young players so to beat top of the league is always good for us.

"We should be pushing for top six and the play-offs, hopefully we can kick on from the win on Saturday."
