BLACKPOOL: STAT PACK

BLACKPOOL: STAT PACK

Andrew Dalton provides the stats ahead of Blackpool's visit...

It’s a second outing in the space of a week for Neil Redfearn’s side and a chance to go into the international break with a win under his belt as bottom-of-the-table Blackpool visit Elland Road.

Blackpool’s last five visits to Elland Road:
April 12th 2014 - Leeds United 2-0 Blackpool, Championship
February 20th 2013 - Leeds United 2-0 Blackpool, Championship
November 2nd 2011 - Leeds United 0-5 Blackpool, Championship
November 14th 1970 - Leeds United 3-1 Blackpool, Division One
December 10th 1966 - Leeds United 1-1 Blackpool, Division One

Five who played for both:
Paul Rachubka – The American-born goalkeeper originally joined Blackpool on loan from Huddersfield in January 2007. His move would then be made permanent that summer. He went on to make 127 appearances for the Tangerines before a move to Leeds in June 2011. His time at Elland Road will be remembered for his game his old club in November 2011. He only featured in six games for Leeds, before being going on loan to Tranmere.

Alan Wright – The 5ft 3 left back came through as a trainee at Blackpool in April 1989 and would go on to make 131 appearances for the side before a move to big-spending Blackburn Rovers in October 1991. His stay at Elland Road was very brief joining on loan in October 2006 from Sheffield United. He would make only one appearance for the Whites in a 4-0 home defeat to Stoke City.

Andy Couzens – The Shipley-born player came through the youth ranks at Elland Road, making his debut as a substitute for Lucas Radebe in a 3-0 win over Coventry City in March 1995. In total he made 35 appearances for Leeds scoring two goals before a move to Carlisle in August 1997. From there he joined Blackpool initially on loan before his move became permanent in March 1999. Couzens made 24 appearances at Bloomfield Road.

Simon Grayson – Grayson like Couzens came through the youth at Leeds, making his debut in 1987. His chances were limited and having made only four appearances he moved to Leicester in March 1992. From Leicester, he joined Aston Villa and then Blackburn Rovers. Loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Stockport County, Notts County and Bradford City followed before joining Blackpool on a free transfer in July 2002. He made 152 appearances for Blackpool scoring seven times.

Brett Ormerod – Ormerod joined Blackpool from Accrington Stanley in March 1997 and his stay would last until December 2001, making 150 appearances and scoring 62 goals. From there he joined Southampton and a loan move to Leeds took place in September 2004, where he made six appearances without  hitting the back of the net. A second spell at Blackpool took place in January 2009, making 98 appearances scoring 19 goals.

Five stats:
Goalkeeper Alex Cairns still remains in the one appearance club having come on for Paul Rachubka at half-time in the 5-0 home defeat against Blackpool in November 2011.

Striker Steve Morison scored his first goal in a white shirt in our 2-0 win over the Tangerines back in February 2013.

Luke Murphy collected his one and only double to date for Leeds in another 2-0 win for the Whites last season.

New Blackpool boss Lee Clark is bringing his third different club to Elland Road since December 2009. He first brought Huddersfield for a 2-2 draw in League One, before bringing Birmingham City to West Yorkshire for a 1-0 win in 2012/13, then an FA Cup 1-1 draw in the same season before being on the end of a 4-0 hammering last season.

Blackpool were the Whites first ever opponents in the League Cup back in September 1960. The second round tie ended 0-0, with Leeds winning the replay 3-1. Our first ever goalscorer in the competition was one Don Revie!
