QPR: EVANS EXPECTS TOUGH TEST

The head coach previews Saturday's trip to Loftus Road...

Just one point separates the two teams in the Championship table, but Steve Evans knows all too well that a "tough" encounter awaits his side at QPR on Saturday.

Evans is making his second trip of the season to Loftus Road, having been on the receiving end of a 4-2 defeat while in charge of Rotherham United back in August.

“It’ll be tough,” he explained. “I went there earlier in the season with Rotherham and we deservedly lost.

“Some of the individual performances for Queens Park Rangers were very impressive that day – Charlie Austin was a star in the striking department, but there were also two or three others.

“The boy (Tjaronn) Chery was outstanding and (Massimo) Luongo was outstanding – they have a number of players who are very good on their day.

“They have a very passionate crowd behind them, so if you add the humongous travelling support from Leeds United – probably one of the biggest in the country again on Saturday – it should be a great occasion.

“We just hope that we can give everybody connected to this fantastic football club a good start to the night like we did at Huddersfield.”

Saturday’s game will also see Evans come up against two former United bosses, with interim head coach Neil Warnock and his assistant Kevin Blackwell set to take charge of QPR from the home dugout.

“I’ve known Neil for many years,” Evans said. “He’s been helpful to me in every shape or form.

“He’s always helped me with players and bringing teams in pre-season. He’s a man that I really do have a lot of respect for, and Kevin I know well.

“But do I want to beat them on Saturday? Of course I want to beat them.

“They’re charged with getting Queens Park Rangers up the table, we’re charged on Saturday with taking ourselves clear from them.”
