CHARLIE SAVOURS FIRST GOAL

Youngster discusses opening his Leeds account...

Charlie Taylor’s Easter Monday strike against Wolves was his first goal in professional football, and the United youngster says it was a moment he will cherish forever.

Taylor opened the scoring after 11 minutes at Molineux, slotting beyond Carl Ikeme from close-range after an attempted clearance from the hosts fell kindly into his path.

Prior to Monday’s 4-3 loss, the 21-year-old had been itching to find the net for the first time in a senior career which has also included loan spells at Bradford City, York, Inverness and Fleetwood.

"I can’t really explain the feeling when I scored," said Taylor.

"I’d been waiting a while to get my first ever professional goal. To do it for Leeds was extra special.

"It was a moment I’ll never forget."

The goal came following some intense pressing inside the Wolves half, led by debutant Kalvin Phillips.

Taylor said: "It was great pressure from everyone, especially Kalvin.

"I could see that he was leading him down a bit of a trap and I just anticipated the ball coming across the box and luckily it came to me and I just slotted it underneath the keeper."

After opening the scoring, Taylor wheeled away in delight to celebrate in front of the joyous travelling United fans.

Asked about his celebration, he said: "It was just a spur of the moment thing, I think I had about three celebrations in one.

"I didn’t have a clue what to do but it was just a great feeling.

"Hopefully I can kick on and try and get another before the end of the season.

"Since I’ve been playing in this advanced role on the left wing for the last couple of games, a goal was something I really wanted.

"Thankfully I got that on Monday night. I was really pleased."

Despite the final outcome at Molineux, Taylor insists spirits remain high within the squad as preparations continue for the visit of Cardiff City on Saturday (3pm).

"The mood is still good," he said. "We’re a close group of lads and it’s a good team spirit at the moment.

"They weren’t great results over the Easter period but we didn’t play badly in either, I didn’t think.

"It’s a good mood around the place and a confident one heading into Cardiff on Saturday.

"They came down from the Premier League last year. They’re not doing as well as everyone expected but they’ve got some very good top players who have stuck with them from the Premier League."
