MORISON 'CHOMPING AT THE BIT'

MORISON \'CHOMPING AT THE BIT\'

United striker on frustrating period…

United striker Steve Morison says he is “chomping at the bit” after regaining his place in the matchday squad following an injury sustained towards the end of pre-season.

The striker, who was a second-half substitute against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, has just two appearances to his name this season and is now wanting to spend more time on the pitch.

“It’s not just me, it’s Sharpy as well,” said Morison. “We are chomping at the bit.

“I keep thinking to myself that if you look back two or three years ago and you said that you had me and Billy Sharp in your squad or in your team, you’d be thinking that isn’t a bad couple of strikers to have.

“And then when you add in the two lads (Souleymane Doukara and Mirco Antenucci) as well, it’s not a bad bunch of lads to have together.

“But like I said we are absolutely chomping at the bit and me personally I’m looking to get more than 10 minutes on the pitch and show what I can do.

“I want to be on the pitch for longer than I was on for against Sheffield Wednesday, ideally you’d like to start the games.

“I think that if I do I have got something to offer. Also, when I come on for just the 10 minutes I think that I have done well.”

Having spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Millwall, the striker's future was uncertain having been linked with a number of other clubs during the summer transfer window.

Steve says these rumours are not of his doing as he intends to stay and wants to see success in his time at United, with another two years remaining on his current deal.

“Everyone is entitled to their option at the end of the day and I seem to have been tarnished with this tag of someone who doesn’t want to be here,” said the striker. “I’m not sure where that has come from.

“I’ve been linked to go out on loan to this place and leave to this place but that just isn’t the case. I haven’t spoken to anyone and I haven’t looked to leave.

“I’m not looking to leave.

“I’ve got another year after this season and I want to be here and be successful.”

Including the set-back the striker had at the start of the current campaign, his time at United has been hampered by injury.

But Morison insists he is now fit and ready to kick-start his Elland Road career.

“At the end of the day I am a football player,” added Steve. “I joined here 18 months ago which you wouldn’t believe because it feels like I have only just turned up.

“It was horrendous for the first 13 games or whatever it was. I had a couple of good games where I scored a few goals but looking back I should have taken myself out of the limelight and got myself fit.

“I didn’t do that and made a bad decision and that has hindered me ever since. I had a very average season at Millwall last year.

“But I have spent the summer getting myself fit and to be honest I thought that I was firing on all cylinders in pre-season. I thought that I was doing really well but then I got the set-back.

“I’m back now and I feel like I’m back to where I was two years ago. I feel like I am ready.”
