GIBBS: NO GETTING CARRIED AWAY

Nigel Gibbs keeping a cool head as United sit in top six…

Assistant manager Nigel Gibbs isn’t getting carried away despite United currently holding a top six spot in the Championship table.

Gibbs says that nothing has changed for him and manager Brian McDermott and the pair are not looking beyond the Blackburn game at the weekend.

United currently hold a Play-Off spot thanks to a fourth successive home league victory on Saturday, something Nigel is proud of.

“Our home record is really pleasing,” said the assistant manager. “The two games before the four wins I thought we deserved draws.

“Since then we have been strong at home and I think the fans have played their part in that and they have driven us home. The lads are relishing playing at Elland Road now.

“We are going to take each game as it comes. Nothing has changed for us from that point of view.

“This weekend brings another tough game against Blackburn and we’ll be going there looking for the three points like we always do.

“Now that we are in the top six we are there to be shot at a little bit but we are prepared for that. We feel that there is more to come from us. That’s the pleasing thing and we’ll continue to work. “

Saturday’s game at Blackburn will see an away crowd of in excess of 6,800, the highest away following of the season, and the assistant manager says the support really helps.

Blackburn may be an unknown quantity this season with mixed results to their name but Gibbs is expecting a tough game.

“There has been a terrific response from the supporters since we came in,” he said. “It really helps away from home.

“Saturday will be a tough game. I’ve looked at their side and their squad and they have some good players in their team.

“I think they would say that they have been inconsistent but on their day they can beat anybody.

“But it’s about what we do. They will obviously be aware of what we have got and the form we are in but we have got to go there and do the right things.

“We need to be on the front foot and take the game to them and hopefully with the support we can get the right result.”
