HEALTHY COMPETITION AHEAD OF BLUES TRIP

HEALTHY COMPETITION AHEAD OF BLUES TRIP

Early team news for weekend…

United’s caretaker boss Neil Redfearn has plenty to choose from in regards to squad selection ahead of Saturday’s (12.15pm) trip to St. Andrew’s to face Birmingham City.

Following a transfer window that saw United make 15 new signings there is competition for places in all departments, something Redfearn says is healthy.

United have a double injury boost ahead of the game with Souleymane Doukara and Gaetano Berardi both returning to full training.

“There is a lot of competition for places and at the moment that is healthy,” said the caretaker boss. “It has been done right and the lad’s attitude has been first class, even when they haven’t been involved.

“It makes a competitive environment.

“Both Doukara and Berardi are fit and available. Both trained this week and are available for selection so we have options now.”

Along with the injury boosts of Doukara and Berardi, Redfearn could hand a debut to Brazilian forward Adryan.

“Adryan had some of the game against Ipswich on Monday with the Under-21s and he did well at times and found his feet a little bit,” added Redfearn. “The game was quicker than he was used to and he actually made that comment after the game.

“He has got great feet, awareness and has that ability to go beyond people.

“He brings something different so we have got to consider him for Saturday.”

But the game could come too soon for fellow new signings Brian Montenegro and Dario Del Fabro.

“Montenegro and Del Fabro are young guys and they are for the future,” stated Neil. “So I think it is important that they get a game before they come into the picture.

“There is an Under-21 game on Monday and I’d like them to be involved in that.”
