CHARLTON: POINTS DROPPED FOR DALLAS

United winger reflects on Saturday's goalless draw at Charlton...

Stuart Dallas admitted his disappointment at United being unable to take all three points following Saturday’s goalless draw at Charlton.

A dominant second-half display at the Valley, which head coach Steve Evans described as an “annihilation”, saw United pile pressure on the Addicks’ goal as they looked to build on the previous weekend’s home victory over Hull City.

But those efforts proved to be fruitless, with Tom Adeyemi’s strike against the post the closest United came to breaking the deadlock after a stunning save from Marco Silvestri had denied Ricardo Vaz Te from giving the visitors the lead.

Dallas, Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt and Gaetano Berardi all threatened in an increasingly one-way second half, but Charlton held on to ensure the spoils would be shared.

“We came here looking to win the game, as we do every game,” said Dallas.

“In the first half we were below the standards we set last week. The manager told us that at half-time and we knew we had to improve in the second half.

“I think, in the end, there was only really one team who looked like they were going to win it.

“Marco made a fantastic save to earn us a point, but it’s disappointing not to come away with the three points.

“I’m gutted. I can only speak for myself but from looking at the lads, it feels like it’s a chance missed to get three points.

“After the two games against Cardiff and Huddersfield we thought we were moving forward, then we had the defeats against Rotherham and QPR.

“We had a good win last week and were full of confidence coming to Charlton. We know how big of a game it was, it was just unfortunate we couldn’t get the win.

“You need a bit of composure in front of goal and you need that luck as well. Today we didn’t have that luck. You get those games throughout the season.

“It feels a little bit like a defeat because the lads knew we needed to follow up last week with another win, unfortunately we just couldn’t do that.”

Evans fielded an unchanged team from the win over Hull, with United once again lining up with five across the midfield in a formation which Dallas feels suits the side.

“It’s a good formation to play,” he said. “We played it at the start of the season and the gaffer has brought it back in.

“We seem to be playing well in this formation, but it’s also there to be changed up.

“You look at the bench and Mirco is there – he’d probably be playing in any other team.

“He’s probably disappointed that he’s not getting a game at the minute, but we can change it up if need be.”
