FORM GOES OUT OF THE WINDOW

Neil Redfearn on Saturday's Yorkshire derby…

United caretaker head coach Neil Redfearn says the form book goes right out of the window for Yorkshire derbies.

Redfearn, who is no stranger to Yorkshire clashes from his playing career, is expecting a tough afternoon when Huddersfield come to town this Saturday (3pm).

For the same fixture last season Redfearn was in the dugout with former assistant manager Nigel Gibbs and the current caretaker head coach is hoping for a similar atmosphere.

“I took the game with Nigel last season and I remember that we went a goal down,” said the caretaker boss. “But we had a real comeback and we went to town on them that day.

“The crowd went home happy and there was a real atmosphere.

“It’s going to be a tough game. A local derby is always a leveller so form goes out of the window.

“If you don’t compete and get to the pace of the game on the day you are going to struggle. We have got to get that right.

“We also have some overseas players that have perhaps never played in something like this because this is different. It will be a good test for them but they have shown character in recent games so hopefully we’ll come out the right side.”

United are currently unbeaten in three Sky Bet Championship matches and Redfearn says confidence is high in the camp.

“The most important thing is that it is going to give the lads confidence,” said Redfearn. “They have addressed two or three circumstances.

“They have been in front against Bolton and got a result and they have been behind and got results against Birmingham and Bournemouth. We are in a good position.”

Three of United’s new signings scored on Tuesday night and Redfearn is now wanting the whole squad to get chip in and get on the scoresheet.

“It is always important to score, particularly if you are a striker,” added Neil. “The emphasis is that goals have got to come from everywhere.

“If we have got corners centre-halves have got a responsibility to score and midfielders need to come up with a goal or two.

“Full-backs have got to get involved and get balls in the box and they have got to come up with a goal every now and again.

“You hope that the bulk of your goals come from the strikers but everyone needs to chip in with goals.”
