CAIRNS THANKS THE SUPPORTERS

Goalkeeper issues a thank you message...

Goalkeeper Alex Cairns has issued a thank you message to the United supporters.

Alex, who turned professional in 2011 after progressing through the ranks at Thorp Arch, is one of nine players who were informed yesterday that they will be free to leave the club this summer.

The 22-year-old’s solitary United appearance came as a half-time substitute in 2011’s home defeat to Blackpool.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Stalybridge Celtic the following season before returning to Elland Road to provide back-up between the sticks.

"I’d just like to thank the fans for the encouragement and support they’ve given me all the way through my Leeds United career", he said.

"Especially the support from when I made my debut and the way they showed respect to me and my family during the awful time we experienced before Christmas with my brother.

"I’ll never forget the comments and support we received. I thank them all and wish the club and my friends within the club all the best for the future.

"They all deserve the Premier League."
