U21S ENJOY THORP ARCH VICTORY

United's youngsters secure 2-0 win...

Brian Montenegro and Frank Mulhern were on target as our Under-21s recorded a 2-0 victory at home to Crewe on Thursday afternoon.

It took Montenegro just 18 minutes to open the scoring at Thorp Arch with his 11th U21s goal of the season, tapping in from close-range following good work by Chris Dawson.

And 18-year-old Irish forward Mulhern sealed the three points nine minutes from time with a curling 25-yard free-kick to ensure the youngsters returned to winning ways.

Head coach Neil Redfearn, who was in attendance, said: "I thought we were the better side from start to finish.

"It was a difficult surface, the pitch is starting to wear at this time of the year. But I thought we controlled the game.

"I thought Chris Dawson was outstanding in midfield. Brian Montenegro took his goal well and looked quite sharp.

"We then got the second goal from a great Frank Mulhern free-kick. It was good technique.

"It was a great day for us – a good performance and a good result."
