NO BETTER FEELING - BYRAM

Sam enjoyed the celebrations after his late goal at Reading...

Sam Byram says scoring late on and being able to celebrate with the travelling fans provided an unbeatable feeling after helping United to a 2-0 win at Reading on Tuesday night.

Byram, who has now netted twice in his last three games, arrived at the back post to meet Steve Morison’s pin-point cross and seal the three points in the final minute with a close-range header.

The 21-year-old emulated Billy Sharp’s celebration at Huddersfield by joining the ecstatic 2,602 away supporters before being mobbed by the rest of his team-mates in a moment which the winger cherished.

"There’s nothing that beats it," said Byram. "I’ve always wanted to jump into the crowd from a goal and luckily it was in front of the fans.

"Big credit to Steve for putting it on a plate for me to nod it in.

"I’m just glad that we got three three points.

"It’s a very happy squad. To go all that way and get the three points, we’re very pleased."

Since being played in a more advanced role on the right wing, Byram has been able to score in back-to-back away victories and he revealed that head coach Neil Redfearn has encouraged him to continue adding goals to his game.

"I had a chat with Redders in the hotel the night before the game and he was saying there’s no why I can’t go on and get five, six or seven goals and help pick up points for the team," he said.

"I’m just enjoying playing at the minute."

A major upturn in form since the start of the year has seen United suffer just one Championship defeat in 2015 so far and climb to 17th in the table after a worrying run of form in the closing stages of 2014.

Byram said: "I think we’ve really picked up in these last four or five fixtures and you can see we’re a lot more together now.

"We’re working hard and the most important thing is that we’re picking up results which is vital at this point.

"The players know their positions now. Everyone knows their jobs and what it takes, what is needed to put teams under pressure and try and create chances.

"I think it shows what we’re capable of. We’ve set ourselves a high benchmark now to go on and kick on and try and climb up the table.

"I don’t think there was much in the game. I think they started off on top and we started getting back into it.

"Near the end we were under the cosh a bit so it was nice to get that goal near the end and relieve the pressure a bit."

Byram also praised the recent form and work-rate of Morison, who assisted his goal at Reading.

"Steve is doing really well up there," he said. "It’s hard for him on his own and we’ve got to try and get up and support him.

"He’s creating chances and it doesn’t matter who’s sticking them in as long as we’re getting results."
