EVANS: TRANSFER TALKS ONGOING

The United head coach provides an update on transfers…

Steve Evans says transfer talks are ongoing having made "a couple of offers in writing" as the club looks to strengthen following Wednesday’s departure of Sam Byram.

Evans believes money from Byram’s switch to West Ham United is available to reinvest in the squad during the January window, but the head coach insists any new arrivals would have to be the “right players”.

“We’ve made a couple of offers in writing,” he said. “We’ve had feedback on one of those this morning.

“When the president comes out of his meetings he’ll be active on that. There’s another one we’re waiting to hear back from, but we’re actively pursuing another couple.

“To supporters, it may look like ‘Sam goes out and nothing comes in’, but the reality is far from it.

“The Sam Byram money is available right now, but we have to bring in the right players.

“We’ve earmarked targets and, whether it be now or the summer, we will try and sign these players.

“Two or three of the names have never been mentioned in the press, which is positive, and shows that the conversations have remained between me and the president.

“There’s no doubt we want to add players who can make a difference but I can’t succumb to pressure from the outside.”
