Alex Mowatt

The Under-18s recorded a 10th straight victory to maintain the pace at the top of the league after beating Leicester City on Saturday.

Skipper Alex Mowatt, pictured, scored the decisive goal on a morning when bad weather ensured a delayed kick-off after United were held up en route to the East Midlands.

The home side actually started the better and a slip by Afolabi Coker almost let the Foxes in early on. Leicester were the more attacking side, but United looked good on the break and an incisive passing move before half-time led to the only goal of the game.

Moving the ball down the left, Luke Parkin picked out Mowatt on the edge of the box and the captain, who had already gone close, stroked the ball home with a great finish.

United looked stronger after the break, limiting Leicester's threat to set-pieces which goalkeeper Dan Atkinson dealt with superbly.

And, as the game went on, Richard Naylor's side almost bagged a second with Eoghan Stokes, Kalvin Phillips, and Lewis Walters all going close.

United: Atkinson, Roper, Booker, Coker, Skelton, Purver, Phillips, Mowatt, Parkin, Walters, Stokes.
