Swansea City defender Alan Tate has extended his loan stay at Elland Road until January 26.

Tate has been granted permission to play in the FA Cup and his loan expires after the date of the fourth round ties, the same day as we have a scheduled league fixture at Middlesbrough.

Alan has made nine appearances since joining us from Swansea and United manager Neil Warnock was pleased to secure his signature for a further period.

"We've extended his loan until the 26th," said the boss. "That gives us some breathing space and there's time before the transfer window closes. We'll see how that goes."

Meanwhile, Jerome Thomas has returned to West Bromwich Albion upon completion of his loan spell.

The midfielder's stint with the club was due to end after the game against Bolton, but the 29-year-old was ruled out due to illness and returned to the Hawthorns early.

The United boss has expressed an interest in the player returning to Leeds, but is expecting both Jerome and West Brom to weigh up his future and any available options before a firm move can be made.

"It may be either a permanent deal or nothing I think," said the boss. "One or two other clubs are sniffing so we'll see what happens with that one."

Michael Tonge's loan spell ended before the Christmas period, and the boss has confirmed that talks with Stoke City will continue with a view to his future.
