Jason PearcePortsmouth central defender Jason Pearce will become Neil Warnock's first signing of the summer, having finalised the terms of a four-year deal.

An undisclosed fee was agreed with the south coast club, and the United manager moved quickly to secure his target ahead of a number of interested clubs.

The boss wasted little time in expressing his interest and the player has already undergone a medical with the club.

The 24-year-old forged his reputation at Bournemouth, where he spent four years and skippered the side, before joining Portsmouth at the start of the 2011/12 season in a £500,000 deal.

Jason, who started his career at Fratton Park as a trainee before moving along the coast to Bournemouth, was named Portsmouth's Player of the Year in 2011/12 and won seven of the nine supporters awards up for grabs.

He has over 250 career appearances under his belt with 44 coming in the Championship for Pompey last season.

"He's just the type I look for when I go into a club at Championship level," said the United boss. "He fits the bill for everything - hunger, ability and so on. A lot of plusses."
